Duplex or Simplex? Don't feel bad, many people don't understand the difference between the two. Duplex multiplexers are clearly more expensive than simplex units. Here's why. Duplex multiplexers allow you to do two things that simplex units will not:  watch on a primary monitor many live cameras at the same time (the industry lingo for this is "multiscreen viewing") without interrupting the recording process. The second benefit allows you to playback (decode) previously recorded images from one time lapse recorder while at the same time, continuing to record all cameras on another time lapse recorder. With simplex, you can only watch individual full screen live images (not at the same time!) rotating through the cameras on the primary monitor while recording. To playback (decode) images from the time lapse recorder, you must stop the recording process. While other differences may exist from manufacturer to manufacturer, this is the "meat and potatos" of simplex and duplex multiplexing.
